Expectations
Do you remember when you were required to do your chores, make good grades and get home before curfew? You knew what your parents expected of you and what consequence would be given if you didn’t.
The older we get our expectations of ourselves and others can really play havoc on our emotions. When we set our expectations too high or what we feel it should be; we are often left disappointed, frustrated and resentful.
Problems occur when....
1. We think we should be someone we are not.
2. We do not communicate with others.
3. We try to control situations and anticipate the outcome.
So...how can you change expectations in your life?
- Change your perspective. See the glass as 1/2 full rather than 1/2 empty.
- Having a clear mindset and define what you want.
- You are in control of your actions. Let go of things you can’t control.
After I define my struggle from expectations of myself or others; I close my eyes and take a few deep breaths. I focus on the positive and what I do have. There are times I feel God is protecting me from something that only he knows about. I saw a sign the other day that said.... “Do everything with a good heart and expect nothing in return and you will never be disappointed.”
YOU ARE ENOUGH!
